The Slash's specs include a 5’8” x 18 1/2" x 2 1/8" size, round tail, thruster fin setup, FCS compatible fin system, 4oz top / 4oz bottom fibre glass glassing, polyester resin type, sanded finish, and clear design type.
Safari Surfboards, founded in Durban in 1963, is one of the biggest and longest-running surfboard manufacturers in the world, and the home of Spider Murphy, a legendary shaper and icon in the surf industry. Spider has been shaping boards since the 1960s and is still shaping boards and testing them himself by surfing daily at the world-renowned Durban beaches.

Spider's creative approach to surfboard design developed through his partnership with Shaun Tomson, which broke with conventional design and produced boards that suited Shaun's style of manoeuvring far back in the barrel.
The results were groundbreaking, and Shaun went on to win the Pipe Master's Title and the World Championship on Spider's Pipeline Gun in 1975 and 1977, respectively.
Spider's dedication to surfing and shaping is evident in his rigorous training, healthy lifestyle, and constant refinement of his performance shapes and innovations in fun board design. Safari Surfboards' groms, inspired by Spider's example, are dedicated and constantly striving for new levels in their surfing.
With more than 20 World Champion surfers with boards shaped by Spider over a 45-year period, his consultative style has brought out the best in some of the world's most innovative surfers, making Safari Surfboards a leading surfboard manufacturer in South Africa and the rest of the world. If you are in Durban, South Africa, definitely visit his factory and shop; you won't be disappointed.
