Welcome to this week's Surf Neutral Board of the Week newsletter, where we feature some of the most exciting and sustainable surfboards on the market. This week, we're thrilled to highlight the SPOILER, a modern hybrid groveler shortboard from SINUM Surfboards.
The SPOILER is designed for good maneuverability, easy take-offs, and smooth riding. Its full rails and ample volume make it a great choice for those small, mushy waves that can be so much fun to play around in. The SPOILER is hand-shaped by SINUM's founder and full-time shaper, Philippe Martens. Philippe has been shaping surfboards since 2002 and draws inspiration from woodcrafting and the work of Tom Wegener. He is Belgian and loves working with sustainable materials, particularly paulownia wood and Flemish flax.
In fact, SINUM Surfboards is dedicated to making surfing more sustainable by designing, shaping, and helping you to build your dream surfboard. They believe in using natural materials and sustainable processes to create surfboards that not only perform well but are also better for the environment.
But that's not all that SINUM Surfboards has to offer. They're not just a surfboard company; they're also dedicated to making surfing more accessible to everyone. That's why they offer workshops for surf enthusiasts to build their own wooden dream surfboard.
These workshops are held in Belgium and the Netherlands, and in just four to five days, you can build your own surfboard from start to finish. You'll learn all kinds of woodworking techniques and skills and everything you need to know to build your next surfboard at home. It's an incredible opportunity to not only learn new skills but also to have a deeper appreciation for the craft of surfboard making.
If building your own surfboard seems a bit daunting, you can also order a frame from SINUM Surfboards and build your own board at home.
