This is a board that was probably made by Geoff Fish or one of his friends, Geoff made his first surfboards as part of a woodwork project std 9 Sea Point Boys High in ‘61. They were so terrible that they burned them as a sacrifice to Kahuna.
Geoff and his friends started Gremlin boards in mid-'62 and ended producing them in ‘65 before he joined ‘the Oom’ (John Whitmore) as a glasses during that period. In '67 Geoff and John started blowing Clark Foam in South Africa. He did his first stint at Clark Foam in California in '68 and went for his first Hobie sail with Phil Edwards who was an old-time Hawaiian surfer. At this stage Goeff and John Whitmore were partners. They started Hobies in the '70s. Jonathan Paarman joined them in '72. Many years later Geoff is now working with Jonathan Paarman his ex-employee during the Hobie Cat days in the Nexus boat factory in St Francis.
It was a period full of fun where people used to congregate in Geoff’s parent's garage, listening to the Beatles etc. and experimenting with those Gremlin boards.
Years later this board was a garage find bought by ‘Die Zeekat’ Jan Lodewyk Du Toit for 250 ZAR.
It is a fat chunky board with loads of volume and a big redwood stringer.
