This is a Sea Flight Surfboard from the early to mid 80’s, A number of shapers were working under this label. The shaper of this board could have been Larry Levine, David Lipschitz, Kenny Freeland or Glen D’Arcy. The SeaFlight label started in 1980 from a surfboard factory that was located in the old Urban and Johnson fishing factory on the main beach in Jeffreys Bay.
David Lipschitz just came back from Hawaii where he met Bob and Ron Condon Who produced the movie Sea Flight. The name Sea Flight came from the inter-island Hawaian ferry named Sea Flite in the 70’s. Uppon David’s return to Jeffreys Bay he proposed to make Sea Flight surfboards to Glen D’Arci. Glen agreed on it and as such Sea Flight surfboards was born. Glen went back to Durban and resigned at the Tompson Surfboard factory.
In the early 90s Kenny an Glen were making about 25 Seaflight surfboards a week and 3 kneeboards. As David moved to Cape Town and as Cape Town did not have tomuch shapers at that time a lot of the Seaflight surfboards were shipped that direction on a weekly basis. David sold them in his surfshop called “Surf Centre”.
The board displayed got picked up from Smities, Jeffreys bay local second hand shop by Brandon Watson.
