This board is the only wooden surfboard under the Sawyer label. It was made of wooden trips covered with a 5mm wood. The board was made by Kingdom boards in Cape Town around 2018. The board was finished of by Des Sawyer and Paul Jiggels in Jeffreys Bay. The Sawyer logo is edged into the wood on the top deck.
Kingdom Boards was started by Vincent Domancie, born in 1954 and growing up very creative. Vincent was working with Central Boating in the yachting industry, he cast his gaze towards his hobby and passion of surfing and worked his way into the Surf Industry alongside one of the pioneers of surfing in South Africa, late legend – John Whitmore. A few years later, he branched out and went on to Designing, developing and manufacturing windsurfing components under various brands, one more commonly known as: Off the Lip. Sadly due to apartheid and sporting sanctions against South Africa, his business which was exporting in the 1980’s was forced to shut down and started wood working on different type of designs.
His passion for woodwork sparkled over to Daniel Domancie in 2007 who is still making wooden boards out of their our own factory situated in Montague Gardens in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.
